No Lackin’ of Fashion on Dragonette’s New Tour

Sweet songstress and Serially style crush, Martina Sorbara of Dragonette says we can expect “new songs & new shirts” at their upcoming Fixin to Thrill summer tour. The new shirts are coming from friend, Tania Martins, designer for Pink Cobra and owner of Sorbara’s favorite shop, CARTE BLANCHE. Martins describes the shirts as a Pink Cobra vs. Dragonette mash-up.

Despite singing about needing saving from hair & make-up people on “We Rule the World,” Sorbara takes a cue from her style icon, David Bowie, when defining her own look. She’s always slick in a true-to-herself, non-manufactured way. When we asked if she’s ever had any fashion regrets she confidentiality said, “No. You might not stand behind everything later on but no regrets.”

Sorbara likes numerous brands but has a special place in her heart for ACNE. In fact, she lost a favorite ACNE tuxedo jacket at an award show, and missed it so much she had a similar one remade in India.

The Inside Track on Dragonette Videos

Since style and videos go hand and hand we picked Sorbara’s brain about her favorite video experience. “Fixin to Thrill” was the winner since Sorbara’s friend Wendy helped Dragonette put the video together. They were given a budget and then created what they wanted. Family & friends appear throughout the video; producer/bassist/husband Dan is the Dad who takes the child out of the shoot, drummer Joel is holding the video camera, collaborator/friend Wendy is the pregnant woman on the ground at the end.

Our favorite Dragonette video is “Boys & Girls” with Martin Solveig, whom she met at the end of a festival in Australia on a bus to the airport. Sorbara says that video was an amazing  experience since it was filmed in Jean Paul Gaultier’s studio and everyone working on it were extremely creative and nice.

To help pass the time on the road Sorbara knits, but there’s no scarves or sweaters for this style setter. Her proudest creation, “Lucille, After The ________” is an amputated leg in a high heel and fishnets.  More of Sorbara’s creations can be seen on Ravelry, under TinaDragonette.
